RC nitro trucks
When you have rc nitro trucks in your house, you have fuel in your house (or garage) as well. Storing that fuel has a few
special considerations that you might not have expected if you're only familiar with plain old gasoline.
For one thing, rc nitro trucks run on methanol based fuel (the nitro comes from the phrase nitro methane), and unlike gasoline, methanol based
fuel is hygroscopic. What this means is that it attracts moisture. This isn't the case with standard gasoline. With nitro fuel, you have to take
extra precautions to keep moisture away from your mixture because of this tendency.
For example, you don't want to store the fuel for rc nitro trucks on a cold cement floor. Why is that? Because the cold floor will naturally
transfer heat from the bottle, causing the fuel to pull downward and intensify the vacuum around the seal. This is a problem because it makes it
easier for that moisture to creep in and dilute your mixture.
Anyone who has watched the action of nitro rc trucks should have probably figured out that nitro is combustible. This means you need to take all
the obvious precautions that you would as if it were gasoline. No smoking, no electrical charges, no setting your fuel next to a water heater or
in direct sunlight. If you follow some basic guidelines and keep your fuel moisture free, it should be able to have a shelf life of one to two
years without a problem.
